Do you like soprano but hate to transpose? Do you like the big, wide, warm tone of a vintage Conn? This is a rare Conn soprano in the key of C, so it is a whole step higher (smaller/shorter) than a Bb soprano. It has old pads, but still plays enough on them to say that it is lots of fun to play and has a rich, full, warm tone. You could spend anywhere from $100 to a full repad on this depending on your needs, and it would be good to play around on regularly.
These horns are hard to find. This is the first I have owned, and I have only seen a handful of them come up for sale. And the Conns of this period are well made and easy to maintain. Finish wise, this would have been sold unlacquered, and lacquered by the music store that sold it. Because of this, it’s pretty much impossible to tell if it has been refinished, or just finished once. It looks good in any case.
And for the price there’s no risk, and just fun to be had!
