Description
This is a very good deal on a Selmer Mark VI tenor. It is original lacquer, and it is in good physical condition. People often complain that players cannot afford a Mark VI. Well, here is one that costs less than a new Yamaha, much less than a new Selmer, and around the same as the higher-end Taiwanese saxophones. For an actual Selmer Mark VI. So stop complaining:-)
This horn has medium-old pads, and it plays ok on them with some leaks. If I spend money on it, I have to raise the price, and the point is to sell this at an affordable price. Anybody can put some new pads in a Mark VI (they are easy for techs to work on). This horn’s tone is surprisingly medium dark and more complex than I expected. I had a pro player in here playing this horn alongside some more expensive earlier Selmers, and this horn held its own just fine. It has a bit more wideness and volume to the sound than, say, my 81xxx VI tenor, but is a bit less dark and focused. Very nice horn.
Much of the lacquer has worn off, but that just means the horn has been loved. If I were Margery Williams, (author of The Velveteen Rabbit) I might say that this means the horn is on its way to becoming Real.
