As Bernie Sanders would say, this horn is huge (yooge!). It’s a very big sounding alto that will blast any modern alto out completely out of the water. This has big player’s value because it is one of the biggest playing 6M’s that I have had, and because it has just been totally overhauled and will hold up very well over time. It has all new pads, corks, felts, keys fit mechanically, everything nicely setup, cleaned and oiled. It’s totally ready to go for the next 10+ years with only occasional maintenance. It includes the original case, in excellent condition, and the original neck. The neck is stamped Nat’l, which is something you sometimes find around 270xxx serial, and is very likely a precursor of the VIII stamp that Conn transitioned to soon after. These horns seem to play bigger than their non-stamped siblings.
I should also say, this version of the 6M (also called Conn Artist Model, or colloquially Naked Lady, or Lady Face) also still has the cool swivel thumb hook that you can set for comfort. The key work generally is very fast and very comfortable. It’s a different take on “modern” keywork than Selmer chose, but it really is equally fast (probably faster) once you get used to it.
This is a beautiful, original lacquer Conn 6M with fresh, high-end overhaul, with the cool stamp on the neck, original case, the works. It sounds great and is super fun to play. There’s only one available.
