This is a rare and beautiful soprano made by the Yanagisawa company. Yanagisawa makes the best soprano saxophones in the world today, and this is their top-of-the-line model with all the bells and whistles. It is solid bronze, with pink gold plating over the bronze, which is 80% gold, 20% silver. The horn is fully engraved, including both necks. This soprano retails for around $9000+ which is wild. I have this one priced quite a bit lower, even though it is in mint condition with no dents, no dings, no past repairs, and 100% of its original plating intact. The pads are mostly new, even this horn already had new pads, because I wanted it to be perfect. It is now better than new with a thorough setup by Matt Stohrer. It sings with a full, dark tone. I don’t know if it is because of the bronze body, or because of the plating, or just a function of this particular horn, but the tone is darker and more complex than most of the lacquered 991’s I have played.
Honestly, I really like this horn, and I would prefer if it didn’t sell. Although the tone is different, I like it as much as my Yamaha 62R, and that is saying a lot. It ships in the original case in mint condition.
