SML Saxophones are some of my all-time favorites, and not that many people know about them. This is probably because they are relatively rare, with only 25k or so made. (Compare that to ~700k Selmers, for instance.)

The Gold Medal I SML is the peak of this company’s saxophone construction. It has a score or more of features that no other saxophones have, like a neck receiver tightening ring, springs that are all the same size etc. (See here for all the features: http://www.saxophone.org/sml.html )

This particular horn has its original lacquer in very nice condition. It has had some small dents removed from the bottom bow and where the low C guard feet were pushed in a bit. The original neck was also pulled down, and this has been expertly repaired, and the neck curve and angle now looks great again. It has rolled tone holes, of course. This horn is in line for a repad, but I have it up for sale at this price in as-is condition, ready for new pads by the tech of your choice. Based on the several other Gold Medal models I have played, this horn will have a dark tone with a “french” core (Selmer, Buffet etc.). These horns have lots of potential for power, but they can also play sweetly and have a sound all their own. With a big bell and rolled tone holes, there is a Conn-like element to the sound, but mixed with that french core, you get the best of both worlds, at least in my opinion. Intonation has always been fine on these in the past, and ergonomics are great unless you are totally spoiled by a modern horn! Every time I get a nice SML of any size, it sells fast. This horn is going to make someone very happy.
