Description
This saxophone is sold! But click here to see our current selection of soprano and sopranino saxophones!
This is a clean, original lacquer Mark VI soprano assembled in Paris that has silver plated keywork. The early VI sopranos are very hard to find, because until Coltrane put soprano saxophone back on the map with his own 99xxx VI soprano, very few sopranos were sold by Selmer. This horn was made in 1961, and Coltrane’s soprano was from 1962. If you like the tone that Coltrane gets on “My Favorite Things” or on the soprano tracks of the Ellington and Coltrane album, then you will probably like this horn a lot. It has that reedy, exotic sound going on, and you can certainly play it smooth and warm like “My Favorite Things” with the right mouthpiece.
There are no dents, dings or resolders on the horn. It has original pads intact as well, and plays ok on them with some leaks (of course). Let me know if you want to get it with an overhaul, and we can discuss details.
