This is a Selmer Mark VII alto that we got in on trade that was someone’s main player before we got it. It feels good to play, because it is in that sweet spot pad wise where the pads are worked in and really sealing their best. Based on the number of horns I see, this horn was overhauled really well (wish I knew who did the work!).
In terms of cosmetics, you can see that there is some light lacquer wear. The only past repair I see is the classic neck pull down that has been expertly pulled back up to the correct angle. The neck plays really well.
Tonally, the Mark VII is actually really interesting. It can play dark and muted with a classical mouthpiece, giving you a woody, round kind of tone. But with a more jazz/commercial leaning mouthpiece, the horn naturally brightens up, becoming medium bright with quite a bit of edge and lots of power. This is a BIG sounding alto. If you are looking for a great Selmer Paris saxophone well under $3k, this would be a very good option. The build quality is, after all, better than the more recent Selmers, and the tone is really nice too. This horn ships in the original case, which is in good condition.
