This is a beautiful Mark VI tenor SN# 65xxx with a fresh overhaul. The pad work is very well done and the horn feels very tight and snappy under the fingers. The pads are nice and firm and have a red treatment to make them last longer. This looks like a horn that was very carefully relacquered, very recently. I got it reengraved by Sherry Huntley, a former Selmer engraver, but the original engraving was extremely sharp already (I have pictures of that if you’re interested.). This horn has had an uncomplicated history, mechanically. It shows no sign of the neck ever having been pulled down, and there are no dents or dings on it anywhere else at present. The bow, body tube and bell flare all look great. The tone is very characteristic of the 6x,xxx horns: dark, focused, punchy when pushed, but basically dark with lots of complexity. This horn is going to make somebody very happy. If you’re going to buy a relacquered VI, this is the kind to buy – a recent, well done relacquer without any of the issues that relacquered horns typically have.
