Selmer Mark VI Alto 1966 Original Lacquer Very Good Condition 135833

1966 is a great year for Selmer Mark VI Altos. My personal VI alto is also a 1966. They have an optimal mix of power, tone, complexity, and beauty among the various vintages of Mark VI. This is one of the nicer 1966 altos that I have seen here at GetASax. It only had one owner since it was new, who sold it to me himself. He was no longer playing it, but he was still loath to part with it. It’s that kind of horn. Very beautiful in person and obviously babied as much as possible, it still has almost all original factory pads and the factory setup from Selmer in Elkhart as well. Those American-assembled VI’s have some of the most durable and all around pleasant factory setups of any saxophone ever. They’re often still going strong after 50-60 years, against all odds. This horn still plays on mostly original pads, but as always, I would recommend getting it overhauled by a capable repairer if you intend to play it regularly, as the original pads will eventually fall apart on you. Still it will be a very easy job because the horn is in great shape. Nobody has messed with it or bent keys around. It just needs a smart repairer to swap out the pads and corks without changing much about the setup, and you’ll be in business. There’s minimal play wear and the keywork is still nice and tight and snappy under the fingers. There were a few bumps and bruises that happened over the years, including a slight line in the lacquer on the bell flare from bumping on a music stand, as well as a slight dent in an upper stack post that I got removed already. There’s a little lacquer wear on the low Eb from rubbing on pants. The original neck is in excellent condition and has the matching serial number (neck serial numbers go away not long after this serial). The neck hasn’t been damaged or pulled down at all. Original case is still in great shape as well. All in all, this is a clean, beautiful original lacquer American-engraved Selmer Mark VI alto that has original pads and is ready for its next owner to care for it as well as its first owner did. It’s priced very low for what it is, so that you can buy it, fix it up, and still get a fantastic alto for a great price.
