This is a beautiful, original finish Conn New Wonder II ‘Chu Berry’ alto in original gold plate. The serial # is 154xxx. These horns have a big, warm, powerful, projecting tone that fills up a room with ease. The intonation is typically good-though-flexible, and slot in well with a medium or large chamber mouthpiece. These horns are very affordable right now, so it’s a great time to buy an amazingly beautiful, gold-plated horn for just 1/3 the price of paying for gold plating only (apart from the horn) on any modern horn. Plus, Conn craftsmanship from this period is just awesome. The CG Conn factory in Elkhart Indiana had reached a capability of build quality in the mid 20’s that is impossible to achieve now, because it took the company decades to train skilled craftsmen to reach this level, and that is no longer a realistic financial possibility anymore. These horns are built better than just about any other saxophone ever.
Now for the details of condition: This horn has all new pads, corks and felts, done by Matt Slauson, a tech down in Florida, and it has just been carefully hand polished to gleaming gold plate. The only issues that had to be addressed in the restoration were a small dent in the bow which is now gone, and some stuck rollers which have been replaced with nice new ones.
It includes the original case in excellent condition, and I would also be happy to make you a great deal on a protective modern case of some kind, if you like. Feel free to contact me with any other questions. This is a great deal on a sweet alto, so someone should grab it.
